History of Renoir: Was founded by Jerry Fels and called Renoir of California in Los Angeles in 1946. Renoir produced copper jewelry from the mid 1940’s until 1964. Mr. Fels would later then meet Mr. Curtis Freiler. The two man would become partners and then family, they married a set of sisters. Mr. Fels took jewelry design into a new direction when he added enamel designs into its existing lines. These new enamel pieces were called Matisse and these pieces were created by the highly regarded African American enamel artist, by the name of Mr. Curtis Tann. Mr. Tann worked for Renoir Matisse from 1952-1963.
Mr. Fels died in 2007 at the age 90 and Mr. Freiler died in 2013 at the age 103. Both men lived to see their designs turn vintage and collectible.
