History of Harriet Winter: She called herself “Mrs. H. Winter”, because, I’m married and I’m proud of it. Her husband, her business partner, gave her $2, 200, an assistant and an iron to go into dress designing six years ago 1972 (I acquired information from two different articles written 1978 and 1979 respectively from The Washington Post and The New York Times). Before that they had been in the antique clothing business under the name “Yesterday News”-(that label is attached to coat and pictured in the last picture of photos) selling to musicals like “Hair and “Grease” as well as several stores across the country.

Her clothes are characteristically soft and unlined. Her best designs are jackets with big shoulders, not necessarily padded, with seams on the outside and with shape achieved through deft use shirring, drawstring and cut.
