Vintage 1930’s, Eli Lilly Doctor medical bag. This top handle Embossed leather with embossed name on bag, the name reads “Harvey J. DeMaagd, MD” on front of bag. The name was in gold I believe, as that was the standard when bag was given out. I was able to determine the name by using a jewelry Loupe magnifier to read. For the age, condition and history (see below) of this bag its in Good Vintage Condition. It has some wear on the outer surfaces considering the age, it has held together surprisingly very well. The clasp works appropriately and holds securely. Everything feels tight and secure. The inside of bag is in very good condition. Please review pictures and if you would like to see more, I would be happy to provide. I purchased bag from the 2nd owner and she had purchased from original owner. The 2nd owner used as a pocketbook/handbag. This craftsmanship has stood the test of time. How exciting to think that Doctor’s once made house calls, those days are long gone. This would make a great graduation gift, decorative piece in doctors office or as a pocketbook/purse/handbag.
Measurements of Doctor’s Bag: 13 1/2″ Length, 7″ Height, 5 1/2″ Depth.
History: Eli Lilly has a rich history of the pharmaceutical industry. These bags were gifted to newly minted MD’s as they graduated medical school. The practice of gifting medical students these bags has long since come to an end. It was decided it made it a biased work environment. This was just a snip it of information.
