Vintage 1980’s Designer Claude Montana Cream Swing Wool Coat

Vintage 1980’s Claude Montana Cream Swing Wool Coat. This luxurious  100% wool swing coat with versatile and over sized collar, a full zip closure, side slit pockets and small size shoulder pads. The lining is a blend of cotton 50%, viscose 42% and rayon 7%, which looks and fells like silk. Coat has a front nylon zipper of 39″ length  Tag in coat states size 42/ 12. But please refer to measurements I have provided below. No stains, discoloration or tears. Excellent Vintage Condition.

Measurements were taken lying flat: Bust 23 1/2″, Waist 25″ Hips are free.  Actual Shoulder to Shoulder 23 1/2″ Length of coat from shoulder to hemline 34″

History of Claude Montana: Wow, I’m totally blown away by the information on this genius. What a designer, from the triumph of his outstanding career to the heartbreak he has endured and surpassed. I came across an article written in Vanity Fair, of September 2013 and was mesmerized by the story which was written. They said Montana did a Greta Garbo and became a recluse, retreating from the public eye for the last 15 years. Montana was born Claude Montamat in Paris in 1947. In spite of rumors to the contrary, Montana cites practical reasons for the name change, which occurred in the late 70s. “Our friends had problems pronouncing it and ‘Montana’ was easier.”

He settled in London and began his career by selling his own designs of opulent, bejewelled, papier-mâché jewellery. Featured in Vogue magazine yet sold in London’s street markets, this was the epitome of the 1960s youth culture. By the 1970s he had returned to Paris and worked for leather manufacturer MacDouglas and by 1977 he had launched his own clothing collection, ‘Montana’.

Nevertheless, Montana is not averse to designing again, as shown by his recent foray back into couture. “I really would like to return, but not in the same intense way,” he says. “It was a shock to leave the fashion world. That said, I never could get used to the reviews. I always took that very personally.”
