History of Furs by Milton: Known as Oakland’s Milton Furs. Was located at 404 15th St., between Franklin St and Broadway in downtown Oakland, CA. It was in business from 1948-1972. In the 1959 Oakland phone book (page 306) an advertisement for Milton Furs says that the business provided “complete fur service” which included repairing, restyling, cleaning and dyeing.

The company was mentioned in the Pittsburgh, PA Courier in August 1959. Milton Furs probably closed in 1972 or 1973. By 1973, the business at that location was called Sunday’s Furs. In 1961 Milton Furs shared the same address as the Hollywood Fur Shoppe. I would like to thank my wonderful City for having: Oakland History Room of the Oakland Public Library and Ms. Dorothy Lazard, Librarian of Oakland History Room and the wealth of information that was provided.
