History: Founded in 1975 by Peter Dooney and Frederic Bourke in Norwalk, Connecticut, Dooney & Bourke started with a focus on classic men's belts and utility bags before expanding into women's luxury leather goods.

Known for bridging traditional American durability with classic European equestrian style, the brand became famous for inventing All-Weather Leather (AWL) in the early 1980s—a specially treated, water-resistant leather designed to withstand the elements without losing its structure or rich texture. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, they cemented their iconic status with heavy brass hardware, signature duck fobs, and the distinct red, white, and blue cloth registration tags that have made pieces like your vintage hobo highly sought-after collector items today.
